A pan-Baltic conference “Solutions to poverty and social exclusion in the Baltic states” took place May 27, 2010 in Riga. The aim of the conference was to identify applicable solutions to elimination of poverty and social exclusion on five levels: individual, organisation, municipal, governmental and European level. Conference was organised by European Parliament Information offices in Baltic states in the framework of European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. In February 2010 Comperio starts free of charge training for employers in all regions of Latvia. Three training programmes are offered free of costs: “Bilateral and Trilateral Social Dialogue and Human Resource Management”, “Management of Municipality Development and Facilitation of Public Private Partnership”, “Enterprise Development and Social Corporate Responsibility.” The training is provided within the project implemented by Latvian Employer's confederation with the support of European Social fund.  | The follow –up event and awarding of the contest “We are strong”

The follow up event and awarding ceremony that took place On October 30 at Spīķeru Concert hall gathered more than 70 participants who discussed best practice examples and greeted the winners of the contest. Five finalists were selected from more than 60 applications, but the best of the best this time was Liepājas Association of Blind with rehabilitation centre “School of life”. This centre is created to give support and social rehabilitation to the persons with sight and other disabilities, to promote their mastering of the social skills, integration in the social life and return in to the work market. Also presentation of the documentary short film, which was made in the framework of the project about the good practice examples on integration of the people with disabilities, and a variety of motivational programs as well as a discussion about their public image and understanding of differences across the countries. During the meeting participants discussed issues regarding trade and investment, financial and economic situation in Latvia, as well as analyzed extent political context, including the Baltic Sea Region Strategy. The Latvian entrepreneurs pointed out that in order to restore crediting and cash flow of the economy we need to develop more intensive cooperation between entrepreneurs in Latvia and Sweden. Available amount for the grants is 21 287 418.92 lats. Seven calls for proposals for the submission of project applications will be held until the end of the notice but not later than 31st of December 2009. The maximum grant per enterprise is 150 000 lats. The maximum support intensity - 55%.

| A database of good practice examples on integration of people with disabilities is now available!

In the framework of the project "Learning Lab for Integration” a database of good examples for the integration of people with disabilities in education and employment was developed and is now available. The database currently compiles examples from Latvia, United Kingdom and Spain. In future it is planned to supplement the examples from these countries as well as add new examples from other countries. Read more ... |

Participants of the project "Learning Laboratory for integration” agreed that the most important benefit of this project is a new network of contacts between organizations and institutions dealing with people with disabilities integration into society and at work. In December ended the first phase of the project – exchange visits of all three member states - Latvia, Spain and Great Britain. The experience exchange visits aimed to acquaint themselves with the best examples of how each country is dealing with the integration of people with learning difficulties into society at different levels and different types of physical disability.
